USMLE step 2 CK

Step 2 cs patient note

USMLE STEP 2 exam is unique in that it has two parts: USMLE Step 2 CK and USMLE Step 2 CS. USMLE STEP 2 CK is based on Clinical knowledge. USMLE STEP 2 CK is a multiple choice question based exam. The total duration of the USMLE STEP 2 CK exam is about 9 hours which includes a break time of 1 hour.

USMLE STEP 2 CK tests on Internal Medicine, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Psychiatry, Surgery, Epidemiology, Statistics and Ethics. USMLE Step 2 CK can be a really exhausting exam on the test day with each question stem spanning almost about a page. Students usually fresh out of medical school as well as those with some experience practicing medicine are able to tackle the usmle step 2 CK pretty well. USMLE STEP 2 CK exam does not just test your knowledge in medicine but the ability to read fast, think fast, rule in /rule out the symptoms and signs enlisted in the question stem and pick from very close answer choices . Some students believe that taking step1 before step 2 CK helps, as many of the basic science questions get tested in the USMLE Step 2 CK. The preparation for Step 2 CK varies from 1 month to 12 months usually depending on where you are starting from - whether you are a recent or an old graduate and your base knowledge on medical concepts, disease process and diagnosing abilities. The results for Step 2 CK come in usually 3 weeks later usually on a Wednesday. For updated information on USMLE Step 2 CK please visit www.ecfmg.org

Many students believe that taking USMLE Step 2 CK is a must before they step into USMLE Step 2 CS. That's not quite true because many have started their USMLE journey with USMLE STEP 2 CS instead of USMLE STEP 2 CK or Step 1 and still managed to successfully pass it. Though USMLE Step 2 CS requires a good understanding of symptoms and signs of diseases as in USMLE Step 2 CK, you need not know in depth about the disease process. USMLE Step 2 CS basically tests if you can ask history and examine a patient just like how a primary care physician would interact and then explain the diagnosis and workup plan to the patient. Some students prepare for USMLE Step 2 CK and CS together spending an hour or two a day for Step 2 CS and rest of the time for USMLE Step 2 CK. They then focus on one and get it done and take USMLE STEP 2 CK or CS within a short window period.
